JOB SUMMARY

The Wastewater Treatment Senior Chemical Specialist demonstrates highly skilled hands-on experience and industry knowledge as part of a highly skilled, solutions focused team serving some of the most dynamic industries and clients in the country. This role requires extensive experience with coagulants, polymers, dissolved air flotation (DAF) units, and chemical feed systems to provide expert field support for chemical treatment programs at industrial wastewater treatment plants. Combining technical troubleshooting skills with excellent report writing and customer communication abilities, the Wastewater Treatment Senior Specialist successfully translates complex information to audiences of varying expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience considered.
  • 5 - 8 years of technical service experience in industrial watewater treatement, preferably in dairy, redering, and/ or food and beverage sectors
  • Strong working knowledge of coagulants, polymers, and chemical feed systems.
  • Proven experience operating and troubleshooting DAF units.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across the client to gather information, collaborate on solutions, and provide recommendations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently at customer sites.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively translate complex information across audiences with varying levels of expertise.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort with data tracking and analysis with demonstrated ability to produce professional service reports.

Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to customer facilities.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying plant and weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working in industrial environments and using appropriate PPE.

A Day in the Life [External Job Posting Use]
Morning: Arrive at a dairy or rendering plant to review the overnight treatment logs and walk the treatment area. Collect water samples from influent, DAF, and effluent points, then run quick jar tests to verify coagulant and polymer dosing efficiency.
Midday: Meet with the plant operator to review process trends, troubleshoot feed system calibration, and make adjustments to chemical pumps or polymer activation units. Document changes and update the chemical usage log.
Afternoon: Prepare a detailed service report summarizing performance data, chemical usage, and recommendations for optimization. Send to both the customer and internal technical team.
End of Day: Travel to the next customer site for a quick inspection and operator check-in, ensuring all systems are operating within compliance and cost targets.
Throughout the week, you’ll work across multiple sites, build strong relationships with plant staff, and see the direct impact of your work on compliance, cost savings, and production uptime.
This Position requires 75-80% travel across the US.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year

Responsibilities
  • Provide on-site technical service, performance monitoring, and process optimization at customer wastewater facilities, primarily in dairy, rendering, and food & beverage industries.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of coagulants, polymers, and chemical feed systems to achieve optimal solids removal, effluent quality, and cost control.

  • Recommend and implement chemical program adjustments based on plant performance data.
  • Train customer operators on chemical handling, feed system operation, and treatment best practices.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and technical teams to support program development and upgrades.
  • Maintain strict compliance with all environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
