Description TITLE: LINE MAINTENANCE WORKER PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION: The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled work in the installation, repair and maintenance of water mains and associated water services. Employees in this classification assists senior level pipefitters in completing maintenance and repair projects. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Must Possess the willingness to be mentored and take direction to learn about the workings of the water system. Installs water mains, water services, fire hydrants, and water meters. Repairs water main leaks, fire hydrants, valves, and changes out water meters; repairs wok sites-including roads, sidewalks, and yards after job is complete. Gains knowledge about safety hazards and abide by; to insure a safe work environment. Must develop good communication skills with department personnel as well as the general public. Gain knowledge about the location of water lines for 811 calls; repair of fire hydrants; and water meter changeouts. MUST be available for after-hours emergencies Operates a backhoe, dump truck, boring machine, jackhammer, trencher, tapping machine, tamper, pipe saw, pipe locator, and other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Gain knowledge on the use of mapping software and asset management software. Assist with inventory maintenance. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: Performs other related duties as required. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky Driver's License.
