In this impactful role, you will help protect agricultural livelihoods, strengthen environmental resilience, and improve community well-being through sustainable water management.
As a Water Project Engineer reporting to the Team Lead North, you’ll provide technical leadership and project oversight from initial planning through to final construction and asset transfer. You’ll coordinate multidisciplinary teams, oversee consultants and contractors, and ensure engineering work meets the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. This role requires excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills, along with the ability to manage multiple complex projects while maintaining strong relationships with internal partners, communities, and regulatory agencies.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Engaging and overseeing engineering consultants
  • Preparing project scopes and selecting consultants through formal evaluation processes.
  • Managing consultant performance and ensuring adherence to design, safety, and contract requirements.
  • Administering and reviewing design and construction activities
  • Reviewing engineering designs, tender documents, and regulatory permit applications.
  • Conducting site visits to ensure compliance with technical, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Coordinating internal and external input to support design integrity and constructability.
  • Leading construction oversight and contract administration
  • Monitoring construction progress, participating in inspections, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Addressing contractor claims, public inquiries, and stakeholder concerns.
  • Supporting dispute resolution and final acceptance processes.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

  • Contributing to departmental standards and technical leadership
  • Developing and updating technical guidelines, specifications, and manuals.
  • Participating in technical committees and cross-departmental working groups.
  • Incorporating lessons learned to improve future project delivery.
  • Delivering effective project and program management
  • Managing scope, budget, and timelines from concept to completion.
  • Coordinating non-engineering components such as land acquisition and stakeholder relations.
  • Ensuring accurate reporting and fiscal accountability.
