DESCRIPTION

The role of the Water Quality Manager is key to the success of both the Water Supply department and the provision of high quality, safe, reliable and affordable water to our customers. Attention to detail and adherence to compliance and regulatory bodies is a fundamental requirement of this role.
As the Water Quality Manager, you’ll provide expert technical support and guidance to operational teams to comply with statutory, regulatory & business objectives. You’ll undertake a number of proactive and reactive activities to ensure that water quality is maintained, and incidents are responded to, resolved and plans put in place to prevent any future problems in a timely and effective manner.
As the Water Quality Manager, you will be involved in liaising with and managing internal and external stakeholder relationships

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

  • Significant knowledge and experience in water treatment process, supply or regulation
  • BSc Honours in either Chemistry or Biology or relevant degree and preferably a Chartered Scientist
  • Good organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work logically and analytically
  • Good IT knowledge with experience in, or a desire to, learn LIMS (Labware)
  • A team player who can work and contribute to the success of the Company
  • A desire to achieve career progression through additional academic and on the job training
  • Travel to other sites is required thus a driving licence is essential.
Responsibilities
  • Lead activities required to ensure High Quality Water Supply is maintained to our customers at all times
  • Maintain and develop quality management processes and procedures commensurate with the requirements of ISO 17025 (2017) within Jersey Water Laboratory
  • Support the development and maintenance of Drinking Water Safety Plans, with particular reference to operational science team, PFAS and catchment activities
  • Investigate the root causes of water quality issues, consumer contacts and pollution incidents, reporting and advising on corrective actions and optimisation opportunities
  • Report on water quality for regulatory compliance, reporting to Jersey Water’s Board, Jersey Water internal and external stakeholders including the media.
  • Ensure compliance with the water quality sampling regime as required under the Water (Jersey) Law 1972 as amended and incorporating best practice.
  • Maintain the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Maintain working knowledge of current issues in the water supply sector relating to water quality
  • Maintain all necessary professional qualifications through attendance to appropriate conferences, courses, meetings such that all CPD requirements are met
  • Support the Laboratory Manager and the Head of Water Quality in their absence and participate in an out-of-hours rota
  • Carry out other duties as may reasonably be required.
