Overview ABOUT THE POSITION VHB’s Water Resources Co-op - Watertown, MA is designed to introduce students into the workforce. The program will build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands-on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment. The intern program is designed to round out participants’ academic learning with real world experience and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path. Co-op terms generally run from June - December 2026. Our Water Resources Group is comprised primarily of water resource/environmental engineers and scientists, with a focus on stormwater management, floodplain management, watershed/water quality, and hydrodynamic modeling services. We work with transportation, municipal, energy, and real estate clients. Responsibilities Work within a team of professionals in developing site civil engineering plans and specifications for a multitude of environmental, land development, transportation, and water resources projects Conduct a wide array of water resources related studies and analysis including: Hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of stormwater systems, analysis and design of conveyance systems, design of stormwater management facilities, coastal impacts, and floodplain analysis Conduct data collection and field work Analysis of impaired watersheds and identification of potential areas for stormwater treatment Support projects related to stormwater permitting compliance for municipal, industrial and transportation clients Skills and Abilities Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Team oriented with strong capability to work independently Self-motivated with attention to detail A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve Knowledge of drawing and mapping tools such as AutoCAD and GIS Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required Qualifications Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental/Civil engineering or a related field Strong interest in transportation, land development, urban design, real estate, environmental, institutional, or energy sector Ability to work on a computer remotely if necessary Ability to travel locally and complete fieldwork if necessary Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in Massachusetts is $19 to $30 per hour. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience. We are VHB!
