Overview ABOUT THE POSITION VHB’s growing Watertown, MA team is looking for a Water resources GIS professional to join its dynamic team of Water Resource scientists and engineers and support our growing public utility asset management, water quality, and stormwater regulatory compliance work. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of proficiency in GIS and data management and experience in water resources, including knowledge of water quality regulations. Responsibilities Develop data management tools in ArcGIS, including ArcGIS Online Create and maintain stormwater asset geodatabases and web services in both Enterprise GIS and ArcGIS Online environments Perform moderately complex analysis of spatial data using GIS technology (e.g., buffering, spatial overlays, distance calculations) Diagnose and troubleshoot GIS software across the entire GIS software stack Provide support for stormwater regulatory compliance programs for state and local government and private clients Develop innovative, data-driven approaches for internal and client workflows, with a focus on utilizing ArcGIS Task management, including delegation and review of others’ work, or independently manage projects Prepare technical reports, graphics, and guidance documents Perform field investigations including, but not limited to, stormwater system inspections, construction site inspections, stormwater system mapping, and water quality sampling Collect, analyze, and interpret data to support water quality studies and plans Support the development of federal, state, and local permit applications Support stormwater program funding approaches, including preparing grant applications and developing stormwater enterprise funds Skills and Knowledge Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Highly motivated Ability to solve problems and think creatively Detail-oriented and highly organized Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers Experience leading tasks and delegating work to other team members Familiarity with environmental regulations, including the Clean Water Act, Massachusetts MS4 Permit, and Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and geospatial relational database development Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Intermediate skill in applying GIS technology to solve difficult analytical problems Advanced knowledge of relational database management systems and the ability to use ArcGIS Arcade and the SQL language Proficiency to understand and automate repeated tasks using Python on moderately complex projects Ability to use data transformation software to import and export data for use by the team on moderately complex projects Skilled in data visualization Familiarity with hydrologic processes, water quality treatment mechanisms, and drainage system design concepts a plus Ability to travel, if required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in civil/environmental engineering, environmental science, GIS, regional/urban planning or related discipline 5-8 years of professional experience in environmental consulting, water resources, or GIS field, Master’s degree may be considered as substitution for years of professional experience Experience with project management a plus Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Watertown, MA is $85,000 to $105,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience. We are VHB!
