PAY AND FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) STATUS: Pay Range: 413 Hourly Rate: $21.66 - $33.62 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy. POSITION DESIGNATION This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. JOB SUMMARY This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Meter Maintenance section of the Line Maintenance Division of the Utilities Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employees in this classification perform work of a specialized nature, involving skills and knowledge of operations which have been previously acquired. Essential job functions include: locating and marking underground water and wastewater infrastructure to ensure these assets are properly identified and protected from construction-related damage; providing technical assistance by responding to emergency situations; and exchanging information with customers and contractors concerning the disposition of projects and/or work activities. The incumbent may act alone or as a lead worker of a small crew which performs various duties related to locating, marking, and maintaining City's water distribution system infrastructure. Crew members work near one another to complete a job which requires a cooperative effort. The incumbent has full responsibility for vehicles and equipment on the job as well as the safety of the crew and therefore must know and enforce safety regulations and procedures regarding manpower and equipment. The Water Service Technician must have a thorough knowledge of all procedures and equipment used at the job site and must frequently perform these procedures under emergency conditions. Work may include contact with the public, contractors, outside utilities agencies, and other department personnel. Work may be reviewed by customer satisfaction, daily reports, and inspections by the supervisor. WORKING CONDITIONS Subject to working in and around dig ups, trenches, and manholes. Subject to working below ground level. May work on slippery surfaces, icy streets in confined areas when lines or meters have burst. Works in cramped positions; stoops, crouches, and kneels when pulling manhole covers. Subject to being on-call and working irregular hours such as overtime, nights, weekends, and holiday work shifts. Strength and stamina enough to climb on an occasional basis during the workday to gain access to vehicles, access excavations, scale mounded piles, utilize ladders, etc. Local travel daily. Note: Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Strength enough to frequently lift, push, and pull objects weighing 40 pounds or less, i.e. equipment bags, and other line locating tools/equipment, and up to 100 pounds with physical or mechanical assistance, i.e. manhole covers. Hearing enough to determine water flow direction. Manual dexterity enough to use small hand tools such as wrenches, socket sets, pliers, and screwdrivers, working with speed and accuracy under strenuous conditions such as flowing water pressure. Near vision enough to identify colors, mark assets and complete work orders in writing. Hearing and speech enough to communicate clearly and distinctly with supervisors, dispatchers, co-workers, and the public.
