Description
SCOPE OF WORK: The Water Treatment Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining water treatment facilities to produce safe, potable water in compliance with all federal, state, and tribal regulations. This position performs treatment process control, water quality testing, SCADA monitoring, preventive and corrective maintenance, equipment calibration and repair, chemical handling, recordkeeping, and regulatory reporting. The operator coordinates with vendors and contractors, supports emergency response activities, and provides guidance to entry-level operators while ensuring system reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  * Operate, monitor, and adjust water treatment processes (lime slaking, softening, filtration, disinfection) to ensure regulatory compliance and potable water quality. * Monitor flows, tank levels, chemical feed rates, and SCADA data; respond to alarms and correct abnormal or unsafe operating conditions. * Perform routine and regulatory water quality testing; collect, document, and report samples and results. * Maintain compliance with federal, state, and tribal drinking water regulations; assist with regulatory reporting. * Operate and support SCADA and control systems, including calibration and troubleshooting of probes, meters, and sensors. * Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on plant equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, filtration units, and chemical feed systems. * Safely handle, store, and manage treatment chemicals and inventory. * Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and laboratory records; assist with SOPs, safety, and emergency response plans. * Provide training and guidance to entry-level operators and work collaboratively with plant staff. * Participate in rotating shifts, on-call duty, and emergency response activities as required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  * High school diploma or GED with two (2) years of water treatment experience may substitute. Must be able to obtain Water Treatment Operator Certification (Grade I–V).  * Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain required certifications (Water Treatment, First Aid, CPR, HAZMAT). SHIFT: Generally daytime hours with periodic evening or weekend coverage, including one weekend shift per month. TESTING AND BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:  Subject to pre-employment, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.  Must submit to a background check and pass an MVR screening HIRING PREFERENCES:  Qualified applicants who are enrolled members of a federally recognized Tribe will receive Native American preference.  Qualified applicants will receive Veteran’s Preference with submission of proof of honorable military service (e.g., DD-214).
