Reporting to the Treatment Facility Supervisor, and under the overall direction of the Manager of Development, the incumbent will be responsible to carry out the daily operations and maintenance of the regional water treatment plant, supply dam, reservoir, ancillary systems, and any future additions to the system.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Diploma of Engineering Technology in one of the following or related disciplines: Environmental, Chemical, Civil (Water Resources) or Mechanical.
• Two (2) years experience as a Water Treatment Operator in a facility of similar process design is considered an asset.
• Certificate of Qualification as a Water Treatment System Operator in accordance with the criteria established by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador is considered an asset.
• Good physical health and able to pass a medical examination.
• Must provide a clear code of conduct.
• Must possess a valid Class 5 drivers license as issued by the Province.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications such as Excel, Outlook and Word is considered an asset.

• Responsible for carrying out all aspects of the equipment preventative maintenance program, including entering data into a preventative maintenance software.
• Perform lab tests designed to monitor the quality of the treated water such as titration and spectrophotometry for various parameters as outlined by the Treatment Facility Supervisor (TFS). Conduct jar tests for the purpose of plant process improvements and/or new process chemical evaluation. Perform field collection of water samples and related data, as directed by the TFS.
• Make chemical adjustments at the WTP to improve water quality based upon the daily lab tests results, daily chlorine residual results from the five ERWSC communities and provincial testing results.
• Enter all data into the electronic spreadsheets and monitor overall water quality trends.
• Ensure that the plant processes are producing finished water that is in compliance with the provincial and federal guidelines (within plant design capability).
• Perform mechanical and pipefitting repairs on all equipment such as pumps, motors, chemical feed systems, compressors, air handling units, etc.
• Carry out necessary chemical process or equipment changes as directed by the TFS that may arise from collected data and field observations.
• Installation of new or removal of old equipment as required. Use of milli-amp signal generator to obtain calibration data from chemical feed systems.
• Operation and maintenance of all present and future chemical feed systems incorporated into the production of potable water, including, any future chemical systems that may be incorporated into the distribution system.
• Operation and maintenance of all equipment incorporated into the distribution system of the Exploits Regional Water Supply Committee (ERWSC). This includes all manholes, valve chambers, pumps, valves and all equipment contained therein.
• Operation and maintenance of all inline instrumentation associated with the monitoring and process parameters. Use of plant computer (VTSCADA) to monitor, evaluate and take corrective action to plant process alarm conditions where warranted.
• Conduct educational and promotional tours when requested.
• Operate and maintain the backup diesel generator.
• Provide weekend standby service, as required, being available at all times to respond to emergency call outs. Carry a Town supplied cell phone at all times when on standby duty.
• Perform grounds maintenance, lawn cutting, snow removal, ice control on walkways and entrances and any other duties assigned.
• Perform process tank maintenance such as draining and cleaning, hosing, and flooding to remove any floatables and foreign objects. Remove and aquatic invertebrates (trout or eels) that may have entered the plant through the intake piping.
• Responsible for all interior and exterior building cleaning, including but not limited to walls, floors, washrooms, windows, doors, railings and all process and plant equipment and related plant structures such as tanks, conduits, and chambers.
• All other general duties as related to the operations of the Water Treatment Plant, its ancillary facilities, and any other future additions under the responsibility of the ERWSC, such as obtaining field flow meter readings from the distribution system, chlorine residual sampling and water supply levels at the dam site.
