Position Summary: Mt. Baker Ski Area is seeking a Water/Wastewater Operator and Maintenance Technician to join our team. This year-round position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, compliant, and efficient operation of our water and wastewater systems while supporting other maintenance and operational needs across the ski area. We’re looking for someone who’s a critical thinker, adaptable, enjoys variety, and isn’t afraid to jump in wherever needed. The ideal candidate is adaptable, enjoys variety in their workday, and is comfortable working in a dynamic mountain environment where seasonal demands, weather, priorities, and schedules change frequently: General Responsibilities: Operate, monitor, and maintain our wastewater treatment plant to meet regulatory and operational standards. The treatment plant is a sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) using chlorination. It doses out to a drip tube drain field. Operate, monitor, and maintain two on-site septic (OSS) systems to meet regulatory and operational standards. One of the two uses the nibbler system. Operate, monitor, and maintain a Group A ground water system to meet regulatory and operational standards. This system operates with one well field consisting of two 350’ wells. Operate, monitor, and maintain a Group A surface water system to meet regulatory and operational standards. This system operates two slow sand filters with chlorination. Conduct routine samples, inspections, testing, and documentation for compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. Installation, repairs and perform preventative maintenance on treatment systems, drain fields, pumps, valves, supply lines and related infrastructure. Operate and maintain our septage hauling truck meeting all regulatory and operational standards. Septage hauling takes place on and off site in both winter and summer months taking care of our RV restroom trailers, concrete restrooms, sludge hauling and other hauling duties in a newer Peterbilt. Assist with snow-season operations, including facility upkeep, snow removal, and other ski area maintenance tasks as needed. Operate and maintain commercial motor vehicles while meeting all regulatory and operational standards. Some duties include, but not limited to operating dump trucks and trailering equipment. Support other departments during high-demand periods, demonstrating flexibility and a team-first mindset. Respond to operational needs, emergencies, and on-call situations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Must be available to work during all scheduled ski season holiday time frames. Maintain accurate logs and records, communicating effectively with supervisors and regulatory agencies when needed. Wage, Hour & Schedule Information: Starting Wage: $27-$34/hr DOE Year-round employment with seasonally variable hours based on operational needs. Winter months may require longer shifts, weekends, and holiday availability; summer months generally 4 -10hr work shifts. Preferred Knowledge and Ability to Work independently and collaboratively, with respectful interpersonal skills Previous experience in a ski area, mountain operations, outside utility operations or similarly dynamic environments. Identify propose and implement check and balance process in assigned work Strong ability to multi-task Self-direct workflow Adapt to and navigate changing climate as well as operational and department changes and/or needs Operation and maintenance of various equipment and sizes including but not limited to forklifts, offroad forklifts, frontend loaders, skidsteers, UTVs and dozers. Resiliency under stressors and varying workload. Essential Physical Requirements: Ability to work outside in inclement winter weather for extended periods Bending, twisting, lifting and moving items throughout the day. Ability to frequently lift and move 50 pounds (75lbs. or more depending on task). Standing and or sitting for long periods. Climbing and descending stairs. Shoveling and moving snow. Standing and walking on compact snow and ice. Perform repetitive tasks as necessary
Responsibilities
