  • Previous experience in swine production operations is desired.
  • Computer knowledge/ skills- able to run reports, data entry, email, word documents, excel documents, and able to navigate the tools site to be able to find important company documents.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • Lead and direct a team of employees and contractors that are responsible for care, production performance, site maintenance, site appearance and controller cost and maximizing revenue.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct site visits to ensure management team is giving proper care and management to animals and following all ISF animal well-being policies.
  • The 3 company expectations listed in section below are all tracked via audits, you play a critical role in the success of audits for the entire farm which also impacts incentive payouts.
  • Execute and implement strategies to achieve production and economic goals of the company and specific geographic area including production performance, revenue and marketing, and cost management KPI’s.
  • Communicate with Supervisors and Sr. Supervisors on the size and quality of your sites.
  • Forecast, select and mark hogs for market along with observing the newly placed pigs when sites are filled.
  • Assure site managers have necessary training, supplies and tools to provide proper swine care
  • Work with transportation department on the efficient flow of pigs in and out of sites.
  • Partner with site managers in managing the environment and environmental controls while educating manager on troubleshooting ventilation issues.
  • Help your site managers monitor all nutrient storage facilities and to report issues immediately.
  • Instruct and train managers on proper swine drug administration: mixing directions, quantity for injection and withdrawal times to meet ISF protocols.
  • Monitor overall health of pigs and communicate with Staff Veterinarian and Senior Finishing Supervisor on what is happening in the field.
  • Administration of ISF protocols for site maintenance and pig management.
  • Responsible to understand and troubleshoot alarm systems and calls and ensure a response is initiated for 100% of these calls, acting as a backup to site managers on all alarm calls.
  • Assist with hiring (referrals, farm tours, etc.)
  • Evaluate, discipline, and terminate employees in partnership with HR/ Supervisor.
  • Promote and demonstrate safe animal handling practices.
  • Provide feedback to senior management.
  • Ability to run generator and portable generator correctly.
  • Follow company guidelines for vehicle usage.
  • Pick up and deliver supplies in a timely manner.
  • Work with site managers to identify animals needing timely euthanasia.
  • Complete euthanasia process according to ISF protocols.
  • Understand daily production numbers and factors that impact those goals as well as the steps the farm is taking to achieve those goals.
  • Understanding company production and incentive packages and educating employees to achieve these results.
  • Responsible for ensuring employees work in a safe manner and use personal protective equipment (PPE) when required, keeping employees motivated to perform at a high level to achieve production results and ensure all employees are being trained.
  • Help management team create routines within the farm that result in passed audits.
  • Help management team create and execute action plans based off audit results.
  • Assist leader in strategy development and continuous improvement
  • Attendance is critical. Be at work on scheduled days and be ready to walk into barns by start time given.
  • All other duties assigned by supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position directly supervises employees and contractors and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Assist, solicit, interview and administer contracts to individuals needed to run production sites.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work responsibilities for others
  • Maintaining staffing levels needed to meet company goals which can include involvement in interviewing and hiring processes.
  • Provides contractors and employees, both current and new, with updated training on positions that fall under applicable department(s).
  • Coordinates with human resources to respond to employee concerns or complaints.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees or contractors as needed and in accordance with company policy
  • Conducts employee performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
  • Rewarding employees in the form of positive feedback and utilization of company programs when performance in key areas is high.
