UNIT DESCRIPTION

As partners in learning, Student Affairs departments collaborate, communicate, coordinate, and co-create accessible programs and services with colleagues across campus, including Faculty and Program stakeholders. Dedicated to the success of the whole student, Student Affairs units integrate seamlessly to provide a welcoming and inclusive space that supports students’ well-being and sense of belonging. This foundation of support fosters transformation and growth, enhancing student life and engagement beyond the classroom to enhance their academic experience.
The Student Success Centre (SSC), Student Affairs serves an integral, central role in the development and provision of innovative programs and services to students in the areas of First-Year Experience (including outreach, access, transition, and orientation, financial education and support), Academic & Writing Skills Development; Career Counselling, Employment and Experiential Learning, Entrepreneurship, International and Exchange Student Experience (IESE); Spiritual Care and Learning; Leadership Development.
The Student Success Centre works in strong collaboration with Student Affairs, Faculty, and University partners, as well as with external community partners through the Office of Community Engagement (OCE).

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the overall brand marketing strategic development for educational activities, managing and creating a variety of compelling print, web, and digital design projects from concept to completion that is fully accessible. Uses a high level of accuracy in content detail and design standards for the University to meet educational, research or communication objectives.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 year Community College diploma in Graphic Design or related field and Community College certificate in Accessible Media Design and/or Certificate in Plain Language
  • Requires 3 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities
  • Develop and create custom print and web communications that are fully accessible.
  • Determine and coordinate the most effective brand strategy for a variety of education programs by utilizing and researching design layouts, image selection, colours, and typography while ensuring compliance with the University brand standards.
  • Use and understand a variety of design techniques.
  • Expertise in developing AODA (Accessibility Ontario Disability Act) digital design, web and print projects
  • Experience with creating digital, web and print projects that are compatible with Assistive Technology.
  • Complete various search tasks to obtain information for technical troubleshooting, problem solving, and organizing of projects.
  • Create, troubleshoot, review and re-work presentations using various software packages.
  • Understand information provided regarding project requirements and provide assistance and expertise in finalizing needs specifications.
  • Provide design advice and explain technical terms in non-technical language.
  • Create, gather, and maintain graphics, illustrations, font folios, photo images, videos, logos, and other materials for archive and use.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to promote activities through new print and web design initiatives.
  • Develop, design, upgrade, and maintain original, responsive internal and external websites for education activities, implementing continuous upgrades and improvements ensuring accuracy of content.
  • Understand browser compatibility and incompatibility issues and implement the best solution to resolve issues.
  • Write and apply relevant HTML metadata.
  • Utilize content management systems and cloud based storage access for transferring large, secure files.
  • Create electronic, security enabled web-safe PDF documents.
  • Implement video streaming capabilities using video channels and hosts.
  • Compile pertinent information necessary to complete the project and translate instructions into logical sequences of terms and mathematical equations when coding for web applications.
  • Analyze web traffic statistics and analytical data reporting to determine effective changes that will improve site visits.
  • Use and maintain computer networks and software technologies to transport and collaborate with computer graphic files from desktop computer to other printing devices.
  • Implement approved University upgrades to website related systems.
  • Use search engine optimization (SEO) principles to develop and research keywords to allow search engines to find websites.
  • Develop, maintain and manage the Digital Display program for each educational activity.
  • Create and distribute Online Electronic Surveys to measure and report performance, generate reports, and provide analytics to clients and management.
  • Oversee the Web Content Strategy including develop, manage, and write content and web compatible graphics, photos, and creative.
  • Monitor and respond to inquires related to the web content strategy.
  • Create, update, and connect mailing list sign-up forms for all activities to the email database.
  • Design, deploy, and optimize email marketing campaigns and automated programs focused on custom acquisition and retention.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy in content detail, typing, proofing, editing, and design standards.
  • Ensure email campaigns comply with University and industry standards.
  • Update and maintain information in a variety of databases and spreadsheets.
  • Assist with the creation and increasing of pricing structure for design services.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with hardware and software.
  • Remain current with frequent changes in applicable technologies
