Then come join us at Abbeyfield House! We are in need of an experienced cook for every second weekend. We are located in the heart of Hintonburg. We are a small retirement home with a family atmosphere. If this sounds like a good fit, get in touch with us!
Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, every second weekend, as well as alternate Fridays and stats as needed.

Position Summary:
The Weekend Cook is responsible for preparing meals for residents on Saturdays and Sundays.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of lunch and dinner for 10 residents and a live-in assistant based on a supplied meal plan;
  • Serve meals to residents and assist in clean-up afterwards including clearing plates, loading and unloading dishwasher, wiping down kitchen counters and sweeping floors;
  • Answer the telephone as per outlined procedures;
  • Monitor visitors coming in and out of the building, including implementing Covid-19 protocols for visitors;
  • Interacting with residents in a manner that reflects the values and ethics of the organization;
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum - high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Current Food Handler Certificate or willing to acquire before first shift;
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willing to acquire before first shift;
  • Experience cooking for large groups in a professional setting;
  • Knowledge of proper food preparation, nutrition and Canada’s Food Guide;
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations;
  • Knowledge of First Aid or willingness to acquire;
  • Some studies in and/or basic knowledge of gerontology an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interface with seniors in a caring and tactful manner;
  • Experience in preparing and serving family style and special dietary meals;
  • Ability to take direction and to function in an organization operated by volunteers.
  • Must NOT be working at any other seniors residences, due to Covid-19 restrictions

Total time commitment: 8 - 16 hours per week, with flexibility to pick up extra shifts as needed
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.90 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 16 per week
