Description

The Art Farm NYC gives young children and their families the opportunity to learn about animals through direct contact with live animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, turtles, lizards, birds and insects.
Looking for reliable and responsible animal caretakers/handlers needed for Part-Time weekend work.
Must love working with children, families and animals!
Position is 7:30am to 11:00am on Saturdays and/or Sundays.
You must be available to work on both days but the schedule will be on a rotating basis.
We will also need help on holidays so you must be available to work these shifts.
Employee must be comfortable with working early in the morning.
We are located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan so the employee MUST be able to get to this job by 7:30AM on Saturdays and Sundays.
The person hired for this position MUST maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times with all visitors.
Job duties:
- Properly follow detailed written and oral instructions from shift supervisor.
- Provide food and water to animals by following specific dietary guidelines.
- Closely supervise the interaction between children and animals.
- Be able to properly convey information about the animals to our clients.
- Comfortably handle animals and allow children to safely touch animals.
- Encourage children to be gentle with all the animals.
- Be a friendly ambassador with the clients.
- Open and close facility.
- This position involves climbing a flight of stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, sitting on the floor, and the ability to lift at least 10 lbs.
Prior experience in a zoo, nature center or pet store setting preferable.
Teaching experience is a plus!
