UPMC St. Margaret is hiring a full-time Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist to support the Automated Testing Lab (ATL)! The Automated Testing Lab is a modern, state-of-the-art facility where you will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on life-changing medicine. Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education. The Medical Lab Technician salary starts at $21.48 an hour. UPMC St. Margaret is also offering a Sign-on Bonus of up to $15,000 for those who qualify! Weekend Program Guidelines: Eligible participants must work 48 weekends per year, 24 hours per weekend (either two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts per weekend), between the hours of Friday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 7 a.m. 15%25 differential on your base rate Minimum of six months of experience is required. Eligible participants may use up to a total of 96 hours of a combination of scheduled and unscheduled Paid Time Off (PTO) and Ill Time Off (ITO) on the weekends for a maximum of eight weekend shifts off in a fiscal year. Holiday scheduling and work requirements will mirror the department’s standard expectations for non-weekend staff. Working an extra shift during the week shall not offset a participant’s obligation to work 24 weekend hours per weekend. Weekday hours will be paid at the participant’s regular weekday rate. Job Description: Customer Interaction: Courteously and professionally interact with all laboratory customers and respond to telephone inquiries promptly. Policy Adherence: Follow laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety, and compliance. Specimen Handling: Collect and process specimens (including phlebotomy) according to established procedures, ensuring sample appropriateness and stability. Analytical Procedures: Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses with precision and accuracy, recognizing and following up on critical or abnormal results. Problem Resolution: Identify and address issues with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results as per protocols. Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain equipment, perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs. Resource Management: Use reagents and supplies cost-effectively and maintain inventory. Knowledge Maintenance: Stay updated on techniques, principles, and instruments affecting test results. Test Development: Assist with test development, methodology, and equipment evaluation and implementation. High Complexity Testing: Perform high complexity testing independently. Supervision: Temporarily supervise the section/department as needed. Training: Train and orient new employees, students, and residents. Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with 6 months of clinical laboratory experience OR Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing. Minimum 1year's experience in a hospital laboratory preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred. New York license required for NY locations.
