We are seeking a Weld Department Supervisor to lead our welding operations, ensuring excellence in quality, productivity, and safety. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about developing both people and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and communicate clear, measurable daily production plans for all shifts in collaboration with the Production Manager.
- Schedule and oversee all manual welding operations, ensuring efficiency and on-time delivery.
- Manage weld kitting processes to ensure operators have accurate, complete kits to maximize productivity and reduce downtime.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that increase departmental throughput, accuracy, and efficiency.
Quality & Safety Oversight
- Maintain strict oversight of all weld quality standards and inspection requirements.
- Guide operators and leads in corrective/preventive actions to address root causes and uphold product quality.
- Enforce all safety rules, model safe work practices, and ensure participation in all required safety trainings.
Team Leadership & Employee Relations
- Provide top-notch leadership by setting clear expectations, coaching employees, and creating a culture of accountability.
- Hold team members accountable for performance, conduct, and adherence to company policies.
- Partner with Human Resources on recruitment, weld testing, interviews, employee relations, and disciplinary actions.
- Conduct regular timecard reviews, ensuring accuracy and compliance with labor standards.
- Lead performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to support employee growth and development.
- Foster strong communication, motivation, and collaboration across shifts and departments.
Talent Development & Recruitment
- Partner with high schools, colleges, and workforce programs to build and sustain pipelines for skilled welders.
- Mentor and support employees to advance technical skills, safety knowledge, and career growth within CMP.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience in metal fabrication or manufacturing.
- CWI or CAWI certification preferred; expert ability to read and interpret blueprints required.
- Proven supervisory experience within a welding or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, FCAW, Stick welding, soldering).
- Mechanical knowledge including pipe threading, rigging, machining, plasma cutting, and basic math.
- Skilled in precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
- Proficient in fabrication and assembly techniques.
- Ability to operate forklifts and other heavy machinery safely.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with a track record of motivating diverse teams.
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
