Interns gain real, on-the-job training by working alongside experienced professionals, contributing to active projects, and developing practical skills relevant to their field of study. The program focuses on professional growth, exposure to day-to-day operations, and building a strong foundation for future career success.   We are currently looking for a Weld Engineer Intern to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. The Weld Engineer Intern will be responsible for developing, implementing, and improving welding processes and standards across our manufacturing or fabrication operations. The Weld Engineer Intern will assist the Weld Engineer in activities preformed at Rhoads Industries such as, procedure development, Cobot programming/training, process improvements, and support other departments as needed.   What You Will Be Doing * Review drawings and work scope and develop welding processes for manufacturing and construction projects. * Develop training and programming plans for robotic (Cobot) operations per MIL and Commercial standards  * Specify welding techniques, equipment, and materials to ensure quality, compliance and efficiency. * Assist in developing Welding Procedure Records (WPQRs), Create Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs), and maintain Welder Qualification Records (WQRs). * Evaluate and resolve welding-related production issues to improve efficiency and reduce defects. * Interact and support welders on the floor. * Support Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) processes. * Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards such as AWS, ASME, MIL, NAVSEA Technical Publications, ISO and our quality program. * Collaborate with customers, engineers, manufacturing, quality, and maintenance teams. * Train and qualify welders and welding operators as needed. * Support continuous improvement initiatives related to welding and fabrication. * Document processes and maintain accurate records for audits and certifications.   Your Background   * Rising senior enrolled in bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering Technology required. * Minor in Robotics and/or NDT preferred. * Strong interest in Naval Shipbuilding Industry preferred. * Strong knowledge of welding processes such as MIG, TIG, Stick, and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW). * Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols. * Experience with metallurgical analysis and failure investigation techniques. * Working knowledge of quality systems and documentation requirements. * Experience with automated or robotic welding systems. * Familiarity with AutoCAD. * Proficient in Excel, Word, and Office   What’s in it for you? * Hands-on experience: Get involved in real projects and make meaningful contributions starting day one. * Mentorship & Networking: Learn directly from industry experts and expand your professional network. * Career growth: Receive valuable feedback and gain skills that will set you up for success.   The Work Environment at Rhoads * The performance of this position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats and hearing protection is required.   Our Location We are based out of The Navy Yard in Philadelphia, a reimagined industrial locale with more than 150 companies, 15,000+ people, 20 acres of parks, dining options, public art, and events throughout the year.
