Description

VeiraMal Consulting is seeking an experienced Welder to join our clients’ business in Tullamarine. Our client, Egan & Stewart is looking for an enthusiastic individual who can work well in a team, with strong communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience in welding, metal fabrication, and structural assembly.
  • Relevant trade qualification or Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding.
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures and PPE compliance.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
    Accountable to: Manager /Owner
    Performance appraisal: Three months after appointment, then at least annually and/or when required.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS:

  • Utilize plasma, gas or electric arc in welding metallic and composite materials together;
  • Heat and dissolve metal parts to obtain molten substance used in welding or extrusion;
  • Oversee the installation of tank linings, valves, lead pipes, and floor;
  • Conduct x-ray, hydrostatic, and tolerance tests on welded parts to verify weld quality and conformance to specification;
  • Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment in vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions;
  • Use power saws, chipping knife and hand shears in cutting, beveling, and contouring metal workpieces;
  • Repair structures by dismantling, reshaping, and reassembling metal components using cutting torches and hand towels;
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of local and international building codes/legal requirements;
  • Monitor work equipment to ensure usage is within optimum temperature to avoid overheating or expansion;
  • Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning with chemical solutions and wire brushes to remove impurities such as scale, rust, grease, and moisture.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience in a similar welding or metal fabrication role
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team
  • Experience in workshop operations and mentoring junior team members
  • Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings, welding symbols, and job specifications
  • Experience in materials handling, inventory control, and minimizing material wastage
