This role requires expertise in various welding techniques, a strong understanding of engineering drawings and technical specifications, with a commitment to safety and quality.
EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS
· Welder Trade Certification: GTAW, SMAW, GMAW
· Ability to operate oxy acetylene torches, drill presses, measuring equipment, hand tools as required
· Ability to operate forklift
· Positive attitude, able to handle tense situations as they arise
· Team player and able to take direction
· Clean driving record and provide copy of drivers abstract
· Minimum of 3 years of experience as a welder-fitter
A welder-fitter specializes in welding and fitting metal components to assemble structures, products and machinery.
Welders use various welding techniques, such as arc welding, MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding, and more, depending on the materials being joined and the specific requirements of the project.
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to understand project requirements.
Set up welding equipment, selecting the appropriate welding machine, electrodes, shielding gases, and other tools and accessories.
Perform welding using techniques such as arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and others as needed for different materials and projects.
Adhere to strict safety protocols, including wearing PPE such as welding helmets, gloves, and flame-resistant clothing, and ensuring proper ventilation and safe work practices.
Produce high-quality welds that meet specific standards for penetration, strength, and aesthetics, utilizing non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to inspect welds for defects.
Work in various positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead, depending on the project’s requirements.
Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, grinding, and beveling edges to ensure proper weld penetration and quality.
Maintain and clean welding equipment regularly to ensure effective and safe operation.
Troubleshoot and address issues that may arise during the welding process, such as weld defects or equipment malfunctions.
Collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and other professionals to complete projects according to specifications.
Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion and team success.
