Description

TRAINING AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma/ GED required(Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Two year Technical School degree in welding (Preferred)
  • Welder Certification (Preferred)
  • Experience in heavy truck/snowplow equipment upfit (Preferred)
  • A valid Class A, B, C, and D Commercial Driver License (CDL) with no brakes restrictions, and tank vehicle (N) endorsement. Trailer endorsement (T) is not required (Preferred) or the ability to get licensed.
  • Must be available throughout the year for overtime to be on call for nights, holidays, and weekends during snow or other emergencies

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Over 25% of the time, work is performed outside the workplace environment, exposure to a high level of noise, and subject to hazardous fast-moving vehicles. About 50% of time could be subject to continuous and/or impact vibrations from operation of tools, equipment, machinery or vehicles, mechanical hazards and dust.
  • About 75% of work is performed inside the workplace, subject to humid conditions, exposure to fumes, mists, gases, and noxious odors.
  • About 10% of work could be subject to extremely cold or extremely hot conditions, dramatic shifts between cold and normal or hot temperatures, dramatic shifts between extreme heat and normal or cold temperatures, wet conditions, heights above 12 feet from ladder or other equipment, and being physically confined to a small workspace making it difficult to stand, sit, or walk.
  • In unusual situations, hazardous conditions may exist such as electrical, chemicals, burns, or explosives where there may be a danger to life, health, or bodily injury.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Over 75% of time is spent standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending/twisting of the neck, back, or torso in order to reach, lift, tend machines, move materials or people, etc., reaching, feeling, using far vision (the ability to distinguish objects clearly at 20 feet or further, with glasses if needed), and near vision (the ability to distinguish objects clearly at 20 inches or less, with glasses if needed).
  • About 50% of time is spent in low to medium amount of lifting (10-40 lbs.), low to medium amount of carrying (10-40 lbs.), low to medium amount of pushing/pulling (10-80 lbs.), low to medium amount of handling and a low amount of fingering.

Responsibilities

The following duties are customary for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair all county owned equipment including but not limited to autos, trucks, tractors, graders, bulldozers, paving equipment, and snow removal equipment
  • Perform welding, cutting, brazing, and other fabrication work in shop and on road
  • Utilize different welding processes including MIG, TIG, stick, and arc welding
  • Determine types of metal to be welded
  • Operate metal working equipment
  • Work from technical drawings, sketches, blueprints, and broken parts to fabricate non-standard specialized parts and equipment
  • Operate snow and ice control equipment
  • Perform any other duties as assigned
  • Diagnose and repair damaged or malfunctioning machinery, vehicles, and equipment.
