Job Summary We’re hiring a skilled Steel Plate Fabricator to join TASSCO, a leading provider of specialty alloy steel wear plate and custom wear solutions. You’ll own the assembly and fitting process, taking parts from raw steel plate and structural steel and transforming them to maximize production and welding efficiency. Your role involves fitting and welding jobs to exact specifications, properly utilizing jigs and fixtures, and carefully preparing jobs (beveling, labeling, and bracing) before they transfer to the welding department. Compensation Competitive hourly pay based on experience $18 - $24 / hr base pay [Insert Benefits details, e.g., Health, Vision, Dental, 401(k) Responsibilities: Fitting & Assembly: Assemble parts from steel plate and structural steel, fitting and welding jobs to strictly meet specifications on TASSCO production drawings. Production Preparation: Prepare assemblies before transferring them to the welding department by performing necessary beveling, labeling, and bracing. Process Adherence: Follow required fabrication procedures and correctly set up and utilize appropriate jigs and fixtures in the assembly process. Heavy Equipment Operation: Safely and effectively operate mixed gas and plasma torches, forklifts, and overhead cranes. Shop Maintenance: Maintain a clean, orderly work area and actively maintain tools and machines to ensure peak operational performance. Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all safety rules, wear proper PPE at all times, and follow operating and maintenance instructions. Qualifications: Required Experience: Vocational school training or 3+ years of related fabrication/welding experience and/or training (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Welding Proficiency: Strong knowledge of welding processes with hands-on proficiency in flux core (FCAW), stick (SMAW), and MIG (MGAW). Must be skilled in welding tee joints (F2) and vertical joints (F3). Technical Reading: Ability to read and correctly interpret production drawings, AWS welding symbols, safety rules, and procedure manuals. Measurement & Math: Ability to read tape measures and angle finders. Must be able to work with basic and geometrical mathematical concepts, applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Equipment Knowledge: Proven ability to operate welding equipment, torches, forklifts, and overhead cranes. Communication: Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and effectively communicate with team members
