Description Position Title: Welder Department: Weld Reports to: Weld Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Summary The Welder is responsible for performing MIG welding and fabrication tasks to assemble components according to specifications while maintaining quality standards, efficiency, and safety within the Weld department. This position supports production by producing accurate, high-quality welds and ensuring materials and finished components meet company and production standards. This role may also function as a Weld Lead when designated, providing day-to-day guidance, coordination, and support to team members within the Weld department. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: - Perform MIG welding on components according to specifications and blueprints - Fabricate and assemble metal components to meet production requirements - Inspect welds to ensure quality, alignment, and compliance with company standards - Use measuring tools to ensure proper fit-up and positioning of materials - Operate welding equipment and grinders safely and efficiently - Assist with positioning, moving, and handling materials during fabrication - Maintain a clean and organized welding workspace - Follow all safety procedures and company policies - Perform other duties as assigned Additional Responsibilities When Designated as Weld Lead: - Provide day-to-day direction and support to weld team members to ensure production goals are met - Serve as a technical resource, assisting with troubleshooting weld quality and fabrication issues - Help prioritize workflow and coordinate jobs in alignment with production schedules - Monitor work for quality, accuracy, and efficiency; address issues in real time - Assist in training and onboarding new welders, including proper techniques and safety practices - Reinforce safety policies and promote a safe working environment - Communicate regularly with the Welding Supervisor regarding production status, personnel concerns, and improvement opportunities - Support continuous improvement efforts, including identifying process and workflow enhancements - Lead by example in attendance, work ethic, quality, and adherence to company values Qualifications: - Basic MIG welding experience required - Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding schematics - Required to pass a company-administered welding test prior to employment - Ability to use measuring tools to ensure proper alignment and fit-up - Strong attention to detail and weld quality - Ability to visually inspect welds and components to detect defects and ensure quality - Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment - Ability to work independently and collaboratively - Basic mechanical aptitude preferred - Embodies organizational core values (authentic, driven, humble, trustworthy) Additional Qualifications for Weld Lead (when applicable): - Demonstrated proficiency in MIG welding and fabrication processes - Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills - Ability to train, coach, and support team members - Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workflow in a production environment Physical Requirements: - Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and move frequently throughout the workday - Frequent repetitive motion while welding, grinding, and positioning materials - Ability to lift 30–50 pounds frequently and less than 30 pounds occasionally - Ability to safely and consistently operate welding equipment and grinders - Strong visual ability, including inspection of welds and alignment Work Environment: - Manufacturing environment with varying temperatures depending on shop conditions - Frequent exposure to loud noises, bright welding lights, sparks, and metal debris - Work performed around moving parts and operating equipment - Employee must provide their own welding helmet in compliance with company standards - Required PPE includes company-provided safety glasses and employee-provided steel-toed footwear; additional PPE as needed Pre-Employment Requirements: Employment with Harper Industries is contingent upon successfully passing: - Pre-employment background check - Pre-employment drug screening Harper Industries, Inc.
