We have a fantastic opportunity for a Welder/Plater Chargehand to join the team, working on Hinkley Point C. This is a temporary, 6-month contract.
Our Nuclear & Infrastructure division has extensive experience in the specialist, highly regulated nuclear, transport (road and rail), process industries and power and energy sectors. Providing award winning design teams, utilising state-of-the-art design software and Tekla detailing facilities to offer customers value engineering. This gives a mix of proven success along with modern, innovative design and fabrication ideas to be able to provide a quality, specialised service to a growing market. Vacancy Details
In the Welder/Plater chargehand position you will lead a team of operatives on-site, ensuring all installation works are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently. Working in close coordination with site management, you’ll be responsible for supervising activities, reviewing documentation, and acting as a key link between the workforce and leadership.

Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Lead a team of welders and platers, ensuring work is carried out to design and safety standards
  • Provide technical advice and support on-site, proposing solutions where needed
  • Review and approve technical and safety documentation
  • Ensure all installations align with project designs and processes
  • Manage task delivery to meet time and budget constraints
  • Supervise contractors and maintain a high-performing, safety-first team
  • Ensure compliance with NNB permit-to-work processes
  • Attend site coordination meetings as required
  • Act as Incident Controller (IC)
  • Act as Trauma and Medical Immediate Care (TMIC) responder

Key Skills & experience:

  • HPC site experience (desirable)
  • Data input familiarity (e.g., permits, progress tracking)
  • Strong leadership and team supervision abilities
  • Safety- and quality-driven mindset, leading by example
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Technical welding/plating knowledge and attention to detail
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills

One of the following:

  • Level 3 Pipe Welder Apprenticeship Standard (ST0851)
  • Equivalent apprenticeship in welding discipline
  • Diploma in: Welding Engineering Construction Pipework, Plate or Both - SCQF L7

Plus:

  • BS EN ISO 9606 Coded Welding Qualification
