Snowy 2.0, the largest renewable energy initiative in the country, is an ambitious expansion of the iconic Snowy Scheme. Focused on providing on-demand power and vast storage capacity, this project is paving the way for a sustainable, low-carbon future.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

As the Welding Inspector, you’ll be responsible for overseeing QA/QC activities related to the fabrication, welding, and testing of high-pressure steel liners, turbine components, and other permanent or high-risk temporary works on the Snowy 2.0 project. This site-based role at Lobs Hole operates on a 14:7 FIFO roster and reports to the Quality Manager, with technical guidance provided by the Senior Welding Engineer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Supporting the Owner’s Quality team in ensuring project delivery meets required quality standards and Employer’s requirements.
  • Overseeing QA/QC aspects of welding activities, ensuring compliance with ITPs, approved procedures, and relevant standards across key components such as the Penstock, Draft Tube Liners, and Spiral Case.
  • Monitoring welding processes including temperature control, welder qualifications, and adherence to WPS, performing inspections and attending hold/witness points as required.
  • Liaising with contractors and sub-contractors to ensure proper execution of welding and mechanical installation works, reporting to the Quality Manager and receiving technical guidance from the Senior Welding Engineer.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to health and safety, demonstrating behaviours aligned with Snowy Hydro Values and SHL Health & Safety policies.
  • Fostering positive working relationships through effective communication, collaboration, and leadership with internal teams and external stakeholders.
