WELDING QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR

We are looking for committed, focused, detail-oriented individuals to join our quality team as a Quality Control Inspector for our Sioux Falls, SD site. This position is responsible for inspecting products to ensure they meet company quality specifications and certification standards. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Welding inspection training.
  • Any applicable standards knowledge such as AWI,
  • A thorough knowledge of blueprint reading/weld symbols.
  • Excellent math skills
  • Leadership skills to motivate co-workers to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years’ welding experience, or equivalent training in manufacturing/structural steel preferred
  • AWS Certified Weld Inspector or Associate Inspector preferred.
  • 5 year(s): Welding required.
  • 2 years: Inspection/Quality Control required.

Responsibilities

KEY ROLES:

  • Inspect products to ensure they meet quality and specifications.
  • Contribute to the training and development of new and existing welders.
  • Ensure all materials and workmanship are completed according to AWS standards, drawing and specifications.
  • Address remedies for non-conformance and their prevention.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for inspecting products to ensure they meet quality and specifications; meet internal and external certification standards.
  • Follow all company safety and quality requirements.
  • Ensure that all materials and workmanship are completed in accordance with AWS standards, drawings, and specifications.
  • Inspect materials and finished goods to ensure they meet customer requirements and/or specifications, including but not limited to checking welds, welding consumables, base material, cut & formed parts, and layout work.
  • Review welding specs and/or requirements for each product and work with team to solve fabrication challenges.
  • Document and segregate non-conforming fabricated material and workmanship.
  • Review and work with site management & quality supervisor to address remedies for non-conformances and their prevention.
  • Ensure Welding Specification Procedures (WPS) are current and in place for weldments.
  • Supervise and/or conduct Welder Qualification Test Reports (WQTR) to AWS (1G).
  • Annual calibration of welding equipment, QC inspection equipment and pre-qualifications.
  • Remain current with AWS CWI or Inspector licenses, code analysis, industry standards, procedures, and processes.
  • Understand, support, and implement company Quality Management System.
  • Work with Quality Assurance & Operations Managers and Production Supervisor to develop annual training programs for new and experienced employees to minimize product non-conformance.
  • Represent the company, as needed, on field issues requiring investigation and decisions associated with product quality and conformance.
  • Apply and work within appropriate controls related to safety and housekeeping.
  • Train and develop welding staff by contributing to the development and maintenance of a new hire training program.
  • Operate overhead crane safely.
  • Willing to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
  • Prompt and dependable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
