JOB SUMMARY:

The Welding Technician II performs advanced welding techniques and fabricates high-quality products by cutting, grinding, and welding using MIG and TIG applications.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Welding Certification, completion of a formal apprenticeship, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of Metal Inert Gas (MIG) or Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding experience
  • Experience in maintaining Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)/Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG) welding machines
  • Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools
  • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented and consistent
  • Understanding of safety standards and regulations in the automotive industry
  • Communication skills to work effectively with team members, other engineers, and customers
  • Basic computer skills

Preferred Education/Experience/Certifications:

  • (AWS) American Welding Society Certification or equivalent certification
  • Welding experience in the automotive or manufacturing industry preferred
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish

Travel Requirements: Less than 5%

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, build sheets, travelers, or other paperwork dictating product characteristics
  • Performs all welding procedures including machine settings, bottles, and necessary fittings
  • Sets up and performs MIG and TIG Welding operations
  • Uses a variety of hand tools including pneumatic tools such as die grinders and cutting wheels, electric grinders, pry bars, chisels, clamps, and others
  • Fabricates products through cutting, grinding, and welding methods
  • Utilizes measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, gauges, and “string checks” to ensure the product built is within quality tolerances
  • Inspects welds for cracks, burn through, and weld spatter
  • Grinds and cleans areas where required
  • Communicates effectively with team members, other departments, and customers
  • Maintains welding machines (tip, liner, changes, etc.) and welding vertical, horizontal, and overhead
  • Follows hazardous waste disposal program and fire prevention procedures
  • Comply with all health and safety programs
  • Maintains a neat and clean work area
