The Summit YMCA and Berkeley Heights YMCA, branches of the Summit Area YMCA (SAY), are seeking a welcoming and reliable Wellness Center Staff member to support our members and help elevate our fitness experience. In this role, you’ll assist members with the safe and appropriate use of equipment in the wellness center and weight room, provide friendly and attentive customer service, and help maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment for all. Key Responsibilities Assist members with the safe and proper use of all equipment in the fitness center, STRIVE room, weight room, and stretching areas. Conduct new member wellness orientations and confidently demonstrate correct equipment use and basic exercise form. Monitor member activity to ensure proper usage and provide guidance, modifications, and encouragement when needed. Maintain clean, organized, and clutter-free wellness spaces by wiping down equipment, removing stray items, and ensuring all weights and accessories are properly stored. Rotate throughout designated wellness areas to provide visibility, support, and proactive assistance to members. Deliver exceptional customer service by being friendly, helpful, approachable, and attentive at all times. Enforce wellness center rules and ensure a safe environment for all members. Replenish and maintain cleaning supplies for member use throughout each shift. Report equipment or maintenance concerns promptly to the Supervisor. Provide effective, cause-driven tours to prospective members and share the Y’s mission and programs. Follow all YMCA policies and procedures as outlined by the supervisor and employee handbook. Represent the Y in a professional, positive manner—including personal appearance, communication, and conduct—and wear the required attire (staff shirt, nametag, fitness pants, and sneakers). Salary & Benefits: This position is part time with an opportunity to work up to 25 hours each week. Current needed shifts are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8am- 12pm, but other various shifts are also available. The Salary range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hour, but are based on experience. Benefit of employment at the Y incudes a free YMCA membership and discounts on family membership. Ability to properly demonstrate all the equipment in the wellness center. Good communication and customer service skills. A minimum age of 18 years old.
