Job Purpose & Position Overview
Promote diabetes prevention, health and wellness through education, community outreach, and other activities, for children and adults in the community of Winnebago. The Wellness Coach will have a wide range of responsibilities (including lifeguard duties) and function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within the Whirling Thunder Wellness Programs. Responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patron by preventing and responding to emergencies. Will be working some nights and weekends, which may include holidays.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
Must be able to pass a lifeguard certification test within three (3) months of hire.
Must have or be able to obtain within three (3) months certifications in CPR and First Aid.
Be able to respond to emergency situations such as accidents, injuries, and disruptive behaviors of youth and adults.
Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays if necessary when implementing program plans.
Must be in good physical condition and capable of all physical requirements.
Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguard techniques.
An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, polices, and procedures.
Leadership and public relations.
Ability to work with people of all ages.
Must be reliable, punctual and able to perform job duties independently.
Possess planning, development, and advanced organizational skills.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Certified lifeguard, First Aid, CPR, and AED (during probationary period or as allowed by supervisor.
Must attend all meeting and training courses as directed by Director.
Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Normal to heavy work which includes the ability to lift 50lbs or more.
Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
Manual dexterity with cooperatively range of motion of all extremities; including neck, fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, waist, legs, hips, knee joints, ankles, and feet is required.
While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Reading, writing, calculating
Above average social interaction skills
Reasoning/Analysis
Good computer skills, knowledgeable in data base applications, word processing, and graphic layout.
Works with minimal to no supervision
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrate the WPHD core mission, vision, and values.
Serve as a lifeguard for the community pool when necessary.
Application of proper lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques.
Instruct swim lessons and/or water exercise programs.
Maintain safe and clean all wellness center areas including the pool, locker rooms, and surrounding grounds if necessary.
Enforce pool/spa policies.
Responsible for data collecting regarding each activity/event, number of participants and able to furnish a monthly statistical and narrative report.
Complete records and reports.
Help develop and participate in community health promotion/diabetes prevention events as consistent with the Whirling Thunder Program annual goals and objectives.
Serve as support staff for patients that are in our Diabetes Prevention and Diabetes Self-Management Classes. This may include helping patients maintain and set goals or give courtesy phone calls about scheduled appointments and activities.
Has access to confidential medical information, must maintain confidentiality regarding patient information in compliance with HIPAA standards.
Exercise regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance).
Adhere to and enforce WPHD policies and procedures.
Be actively involved in recruitment and marketing of Whirling Thunders programs, activities, and services.
