WHAT YOU BRING

We are looking to engage team members with diverse skills, experiences, and interests. These are some of the competencies and credentials we are looking for:

  • Diploma and/or Degree in Community Rehabilitation, Disability Studies or a related social science.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with persons with disabilities
  • Experience with supporting individuals with behavioral or mental health challenges is required.
  • Specialized training is an asset (e.g., Trauma Informed Care, CPI Physical Training, Planned Approaches)
  • Well-developed and effective communication skills (written and oral)
  • Able to manage high-stress and/or emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of professionalism aligned with Vecova values.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all Vecova team members.
  • Represent Vecova in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and enthusiasm.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the active engagement of persons with disabilities in the community through meaningful activities such as volunteerism, recreational and leisure pursuits, work experience, and civic engagement
  • Work with consumers to prepare for employment, explore career options, and become as independent as possible at work
  • Aid persons with disabilities in building relationships and natural supports in the community
  • Respond to consumer behaviours of concern such as verbal or physical aggression, mental health challenges or crisis in accordance with Planned Approaches
  • Communicate effectively with consumer’s support network, including updating guardians and family members of any necessary changes
  • Administer medication as needed (training provided)
