The Authorizations and Compliance Division is responsible for the administration and management of regulatory programs and activities as well as responding to inquiries and concerns from the public related to departmental programs and environmental emergencies. The division consists of the Authorizations Branch, Regional Operations and Compliance Branch, Waste Diversion Branch, Compliance Support Branch and the Watercourse and Wetland Alteration Branch.
The Department of Environment and Local Government provides integrated stewardship through planning and management of land use, and waste management issues. It ensures effective enforcement of, and compliance with, environmental legislation and regulations and provides effective consultation and liaison with local governments, regional service commissions and Rural Districts on governance related issues.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

University degree in a relevant field of study, such as biology, environmental management studies, etc., supplemented by five (5) years of environmental management experience, which must include experience working with wetland delineation and knowledge of the WAWA permit process.

AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE MAY BE CONSIDERED.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capacity.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate:

  • Experience in conflict resolution;
  • Experience conducting research;
  • Wetland delineation training
  • Wetland Ecosystem Services Protocol (WESP) training.

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

Responsibilities

As a member of the Watercourse and Wetland Alteration team, you will be responsible for:

  • Drafting and auditing Watercourse and Wetland Alteration (WAWA) permits;
  • Supporting staff in DELG’s Regional Offices, as required;
  • Conducting extensive outreach with the public, wetland consultants, stakeholders, and other government agencies;
  • Reviewing technical reports, mapping, proposed subdivision plans and rural plan amendments, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) registrations, Certificates of Approval to Construct and Operate, etc.; and,
  • Providing recommendations on case-specific project reviews.
