We are looking for an individual with a passion for the natural sciences to join our team. Specific experience in wetland assessment, vegetation, and soil classification is required. The successful applicant will be a professional biologist and authenticating wetland professional and can bring their experience to our public and private sector clients. As well, this position offers an opportunity for a Leadership role, for the right candidate. Although the position will be based in Edmonton, we anticipate working on projects throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Northern Canada.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, environmental sciences or a related field.
  • Working towards a Professional designation (i.e., P.Biol or equivalent), with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Working towards becoming and Authenticating Wetland Professional.
  • Strong knowledge and practice in wetlands in the Prairies including assessments, mitigation and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with industry standard resources, tools (e.g., the Digital Regulatory Assurance System [DRAS], OneStop, etc.) and best practices as well as provincial environmental legislation and policy (proficiency under municipal and federal jurisdictions is considered an asset).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the public. Public consultation experience is an asset.
  • A strong track record in Health and Safety management.
  • Ability to travel and work in remote locations.
Responsibilities
  • Developing and/or conducting biophysical assessments with a focus on vegetation, wetlands, and soils.
  • Preparing reports, conducting reviews and analysis.
  • Providing senior review for reports prepared by juniors.
  • Developing environmental protection/mitigation plans.
  • Preparing proposals including scopes of work, budget estimates and formal RFP submissions.
  • Working closely with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and technical experts in biology and environmental science.
  • Contributing to ongoing project management best practice implementation.
  • Staying current on technical and sector-based trends and legislation at the municipal, provincial and national level.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.
