SUMMARY OF POSITION

Responsible for assisting with the application and screening of WIC applicants, issuance of benefits, and maintaining records related to clinic activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Effectively communicate via written, verbal, in person and virtual methods.
  • Skilled in simple math.
  • Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality.

EDUCATION LEVEL

High School graduate or equivalent required.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

One-year experience in a health care setting preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Answer clinic phone calls in a professional manner. Place calls or complete mailings to clients reminding them of upcoming appointments. Schedule appointments based on scheduler parameters and instructions from the supervisor.
  • Assist applicants with the completion of the WIC Signature Page including the explanation of the Eligibility for Public Benefits section, the Consent for Services paragraph and the Rights and Obligations section. File the Eligibility for Public Benefits form in the daily file. Prescreen clients as required.
  • At the certification, verify the Authorized Representative for the household at each initial certification; or the Proxy accompanying a minor at a subsequent certification. Screen WIC applicants for eligibility (identity, residence, and status) and document in the MIS. Determine income eligibility using the MIS. Verify Medicaid using the Medicaid website.
  • Utilize and initiate Ineligibility Notice for applicants found to be ineligible. Utilize and initiate forms related to an applicant’s inability to provide proof of income, residence, or identification during eligibility screening due to homelessness, theft, disaster, or being a migrant worker; or because they possess but did not bring the required proof.
  • Provide written information to clients regarding Medicaid, agencies that provide Drug and Substance Abuse counseling, and other social service agencies permitted by the supervisor.
  • Set up EBT accounts and maintain related records for eWIC Card stock using the Unusable eWIC Card Log. Issue WIC benefits and provide explanation of the WIC food list and use of the eWIC card.
  • Complete the WIC program booklet. File Sanctions due to Program Violations in the Sanction file. Ensure the secure storage of assigned records.
