Southwest District Health (SWDH) is recruiting a WIC Clinical Assistant to join the dedicated group of public health professionals in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program within the Family and Clinic Services Division.
As a WIC Clinical Assistant and public health employee, you will serve an active role in improving the health of your community. As part of a small, but mighty team, you will screen and determine program eligibility, provide basic one-on-one or group nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, issue food benefits and educate on WIC (electronic benefit transfer) cards, and refer to internal and external health and community resources following the mission, vision, and values of SWDH.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (MQ):

  • 6 months of experience or equivalent education in the health and nutritional needs of adults and children
  • Approximately 6 months or more of related work experience in the following areas: o Interviewing and eliciting personal information o Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals o Recording information accurately and legibly

MQ Specialty:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Ideal Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • 6 months of experience or equivalent education in: o Interviewing methods o Written and verbal communication skills
  • Approximately 6 months or more of related work experience in the following areas: o Interpreting, explaining, and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments o Interpreting, explaining, and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments o Independently handling complaints and upset individuals in a business setting o Conducting sensitive fact-finding interviews

Supplemental Information:
This position is not covered by Social Security. As a result, employees do not pay Social Security taxes and will not earn credits toward Social Security retirement, disability, or survivor benefits based on earnings from this job. However, Medicare taxes will still be withheld, and these earnings will count toward Medicare eligibility.
