Description

Horton Vineyards is a 35,000 case per year winery located between Charlottesville, VA and Culpeper, VA. We are seeking a full-time or part time tasting room member to join our team. We have a long standing in the Virginia winery history. We have over 50 wines to choose from in our tasting room.

Responsibilities:

  • Confidently and respectfully greet patrons in the tasting room of at off-site events.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patrons and uphold discretion and Virginia ABC law.
  • Available with notice to work off site at events.
  • Successfully communicate wine taste with patron.
  • Seeking dynamic self-motivated individual to create and manage all content for website/social media platforms and plan special events to promote and serve award winning wines to customers in our urban tasting room.
  • This position is perfect for the individual who wants to become an integral part of a small and dynamic team to share in our vision of promoting exceptional, local wine.
  • Duties to include: assist in all marketing initiatives (website/social media content, advertising, special events), customer service, and tasting room operations.
  • Be well-versed in 50+ wines served in the tasting room.
  • Teach diverse wine profiles tailored to patrons.
  • Work with other employees in the tasting room to achieve highest customer service and complete tasks.
  • Uphold cleaning standards and procedures.
  • Present and pour the wines of Horton Vineyards at special events and outside tasting events as required.
  • Conduct regular wine inventories and maintain appropriate supply levels for the Tasting Room.
  • Stocking and Rotating wines and merchandise as needed, accepting inventory and updating POS.
  • Selling wine and increasing wine club memberships.
  • Maximize productivity during slower times in order to maintain the tasting room and property.
  • Following proper procedure for TTB record keeping.
  • Answering phone calls, returning messages from customers, executing phone orders, asking customers correct information for prospective events.
  • Housekeeping, may include but not limited to insure glassware is clean, trash and recycling is removed, floors are swept and mopped, kitchen is clean and tidy, clean bathroom, scrub/clean outside furniture, vacuuming carpets and stairs.
  • Upholding the company policies.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training.
  • Be familiar with the information in staff notes and updates as provided by management, complete opening and closing procedures.
  • Accurately handle routine sales on the Point of Sale including cash, check, and credit and gift card transactions while applying proper discounts.
  • Expected work hours: Weekends and some holidays.

Long and irregular hours during peak seasons and/or special events

Qualifications

  • 1 or more years experience in winery, hospitality or related field is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Enthusiasm for wine in general and Virginia wines.
  • Relaxed, friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards in customer service and working with the public.
  • Strong problem-solving.
  • Flexibility and ability to manage constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Knowledge of wines and wine production is highly desired.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to correctly check the identification of patrons to verify that they are 21 or older.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Ability to lift at least 45 pounds (case of wine).
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time (8 + hours per day).

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
