Description
Job Description Job Description: Wintel or an Active Directory Expert Location: Rockville, MD Duration: 6+ months contract Level: Senior Technical Lead (L3/L4 Expert) Role Overview: We are seeking a high-caliber Lead Systems Engineer with deep expertise in Wintel, Active Directory, and Virtualization. This is not a traditional facility-based "Data Center Operations" role; rather, it is a hands-on technical leadership position focused on the architecture, management, and high-level troubleshooting (L3/L4) of critical server infrastructure and identity services. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert who can navigate complex hybrid environments—transitioning seamlessly between on-premises VMware/VxRail hardware and Azure/AWS cloud ecosystems. Core Responsibilities & Technical Expertise: 1. Identity & Access Management (Primary Focus) Active Directory & Azure AD: Act as the Tier 4 escalation point for AD DS, Azure AD (Entra ID), and hybrid identity synchronization. Security & Connectivity: Manage SSO integrations, Application Proxy, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) lifecycle management. Compliance: Ensure robust identity governance and secure access controls across the enterprise. 2. Virtualization & Data Center Hardware Hyper-converged Infrastructure: Expert-level administration of Dell VxRail and the VMware stack (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi). Hardware Lifecycle: Manage server hardware provisioning, firmware updates, and physical-to-virtual optimizations within the data center environment. 3. Core Network Services & OS Infrastructure Services: Deep-dive troubleshooting of DNS, DHCP, and IPAM. Windows Server: Expert-level administration of Windows Server OS (all modern versions). Bonus: Proficiency in Linux distributions is highly valued. 4. Cloud, Automation & Observability Hybrid Cloud: Manage compute resources and governance within AWS and Azure. Modern Ops: Implement and manage Observability/Monitoring tools (AIOps) to ensure high availability. Automation: Drive efficiency through PowerShell scripting and other automation frameworks to eliminate manual toil. 5. Storage, Backup & End-User Management Maintain a solid understanding of Enterprise Storage (SAN/NAS) and Backup recovery solutions. Provide high-level oversight/strategy for Modern Endpoint Management via Microsoft Intune. Qualifications Candidate Qualifications: Experience Level: Must be currently operating at an L3 or L4 Technical Expert level. We are looking for "deep dive" engineers, not generalists or L1/L2 coordinators. Education/Certifications: Relevant certifications (MCSE, VCAP, Azure Solutions Architect, etc.) are a significant plus. Soft Skills: Ability to mentor junior engineers, lead root-cause analysis (RCA) sessions, and communicate complex technical concepts to stakeholders. Additional Information All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
Responsibilities
The role involves acting as a Tier 4 escalation point for identity services, including Active Directory and Azure AD, while managing complex hybrid cloud and on-premises virtualization environments. The lead will also oversee data center hardware, implement automation through scripting, and ensure high availability through robust monitoring and observability practices.
