Looking for a rewarding winter role where you can make a real impact on road safety? Fowler is seeking Winter Patrollers to proactively monitor road conditions, perform necessary repairs, and report any maintenance issues or quality concerns to the supervisor in the Parry Sound and MacTier areas.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid G driver’s license, DZ or equivalent is preferred.
  • Candidates with OTM Book 7 training will be given preference.
  • Strong knowledge of highway maintenance.
  • Computer literate and capable of completing forms in a timely manner.
  • Strong decision making and leadership skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with clear communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed.
  • Must be able to stand, lift 50 lbs., carry, bend, reach.
Responsibilities
  • Patrol designated roads and repair deficiencies when identified.
  • Communicate to the area patrol supervisor any deficiencies and hazards not remedied.
  • Decision making – responsible for calling drivers in, in a timely manner, to service the routes and deploy plows.
  • Respond to all incidents within the patrol area (accidents, spills, etc.) and take appropriate action.
  • Ensure all roadways are clear of all debris in patrol area.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, i.e., Incident Report.
  • Dispatch winter maintenance equipment based on route requirements and monitor winter operations.
  • Effectively communicate with emergency services; MTO/Communication Centre, ambulance, police, and fire departments.
  • Communicate/coordinate with adjoining patrol yards regarding weather conditions, detours, and highway closures.
  • Manage and monitor equipment failures and repairs.
  • Respond to public complaints.
  • Maintain an accurate patrol Diary daily.
  • Assist in the completion of all required daily/weekly/monthly reports as specified in the contract.
