Description

At Apple, we work every single day to craft products that enrich people’s lives. Do you love working on challenges that no one has solved yet? Do you like changing the game? We have an opportunity for a forward-thinking and unusually hardworking Wireless System Engineer. As a member of our multi-faceted group, you will have the rare and extraordinary opportunity to craft upcoming products that will delight and encourage millions of Apple’s customers every single day. In this technical role, you will be part of a silicon design group responsible for system integration, bringup and characterization of state-of-the-art wireless SoC products from conception to production.

DESCRIPTION

Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Bringup, validate, and tune phy/radio systems on emulation, simulation and real silicon platforms to achieve optimal performance ; Design and implement optimal calibration algorithms in Python/Matlab simulation environment, simulate and bench mark performance ; Implement on-chip calibration algorithms with HW/SW constraints for factory tuning and real time operation ; Develop Python/Matlab based Pre/Post-silicon validation and debug environments ; Work on emulation and FPGA platforms to validate hardware design ; Work alongside PHY, MAC, FW, RFIC and digital circuit designers on efficient implementation of DSP algorithms ; Develop and implement test plans, collect and analyze test results, identify and debug issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience with chip bringup, tuning transmitter and receiver chain performance, and familiarity with calibration algorithms.
  • Basic understanding of communication theory, DSP, OFDM systems and radio architectures, radio impairments and measurement techniques.
  • Experience with Python, Matlab, Shell scripting and/or C/C++ implementation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good understanding of communication theory and signal processing algorithms (such as timing recovery, signal estimation and detection, automatic gain control, RF impairment estimation and correction, channel estimation, equalization, coexistence, interference mitigation etc.).
  • Knowledge of wireless communication protocols like 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/bc, 802.11ad/ay or LTE.
  • Experience designing algorithms for calibration, pre-equalization, cancellation, and/or digital pre-distortion techniques.
  • Hands-on experience using wireless test lab equipment (spectrum analyzer, signal generator, network analyzer, power meter), with a basic understanding of their functionality.
  • Experience with pre-silicon validation using emulation and FPGA prototyping tools and methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical and debug skills, with an ability to debug hardware issues within emulation environment.
  • Experience building test automation and verification flow development with scripting languages such as Python.
