Job Posting Title: WLS-TV (ABC7) News, Race & Culture Intern, Spring 2026 Req ID: 10131195 Job Description: About the Role & Program: ABC7 (WLS-TV) Chicago is the Midwest flagship of the ABC television network. ABC7 leads the market in local news coverage with daily newscasts and has been in the number one position in local news since March 1986. Our station’s offices and studios are in The Loop in downtown Chicago! Our Race and Culture Unit launched in 2020 amid the national awakening on race. Our team is looking for a highly creative individual with a natural ability to capture attention, spark engagement, and bring fresh ideas to life. You should have a strong sense of storytelling, an eye for visual trends and the ability to craft content that resonates with diverse audiences. Portfolio or examples of creative work required, this should include social media. What You Will Do: Help to develop, research and write on-air stories and research story ideas by getting in touch with community members Follow up on story pitch emails Brainstorm content for social media platform Assist in planning and executing monthly content calendars aligned with Race and culture themes (community, legacy, empowerment, storytelling). Represent ABC7 at community events and activations. Required Qualifications & Skills: Knowledge of how to log interviews, screen calls, and emails Some editorial experience to determine the focus of the story Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills Experience with video editing tools (Adobe Premiere, CapCut, or Final Cut Pro) Creative eye for storytelling, design, and audience engagement Be able to work collaboratively and independently. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with the Chicago television market Prior experience creating content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts Eligibility Requirements & Program Information: Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements: Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship. Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program. Be at least 18 years of age Possess unrestricted work authorization Additional Information: Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship Fully available from January 2026 through June 2026 Fully available for the duration of the internship, 18 hours each week Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the Chicago, Illinois area Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work Chicago, Illinois area Materials Required: A portfolio review is required for this position.
