We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Progression to Learning & Work department as a Work-Based Learning Coach.
Highly motivated and with a positive and engaging personality, you will be able to build rapport with your students and support them to develop their autonomy and independence in a community work setting. You will be able to utilise your exceptional communication skills to network and liaise with colleagues internal and external to the college, to ensure your students are supported throughout their full learning and work placement journey. Competent in the use of IT, you’ll need to be innovative and solution-focused and be able to meet targets, providing a high-quality service to all stakeholders.
This is a part-time role working 18.5 hours per week.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

  • A Level 3 qualification (e.g. A level, NVQ 3)
  • GCSE 4-9 (A*- C) or nationally recognised level 2 qualification in Maths and English or equivalent. (e.g. CSE 1, O Level A – C) Or prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in supporting students with disabilities and/or learning difficulties in post-16 education.
  • Experience working with Education, Health and Care Plans and other forms of disability related evidence.
  • Knowledge of a variety of techniques to support the learning of students and experience in implementing these.

Responsibilities
  • Provide non-teaching 1:1 and group support for students on work placements, including in community settings.
  • Support students on Entry Level 3 work-based learning courses, assisting tutors in practical work environments.
  • Adapt resources and make reasonable adjustments for students with SEND, EHCPs, and SEMH needs.
  • Use a trauma-informed and nurturing approach to support student wellbeing and engagement.
  • Encourage independence, personal decision-making, and integration in workplace settings.
  • Liaises with local employers and organisations to secure suitable placements in conjunction with the curriculum and work placements team.
  • Liaise with employers and community partners to ensure the smooth running of work placements.
  • Create and maintain risk assessments for student placements.
  • Support students to travel to community-based work placements, by undertaking basic travel training on a needs basis
  • Promote aspirational outcomes aligned with EHC Plans, including employment, further learning, or independent living.
  • Maintain regular contact with students on caseload, offering guidance and referrals to other services.
  • Share key information with curriculum teams using college systems.
  • Take direction from the lead tutor and work under the management of the team leader.
  • Provides on-the-job support to students in integrated work settings to encourage them to become competent and independent.
