Overview The Work-Based Learning Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with community partners to provide Kennedy Krieger students with the opportunity to practice work-based skills in the community. This staff member works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and community partners to assess student abilities and needs in order to provide transition activities to maximize post-school outcomes for Kennedy Krieger students. At the Lifeskills and Education for Students with Autism and Pervasive Behavioral Challenges ( LEAP ) Program , our mission is to ensure each of our students gains the independence and skills necessary to fully participate in school, community, workplace, and home life. Our specialized autism program is a nonpublic special education day program approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. We offer a range of educational and therapeutic services for students with complex academic, communication, social, and behavioral needs. Our program emphasizes the development of lifelong skills through an active approach to learning, including participation in community and work-based learning opportunities that allow them to apply skills outside of the classroom. Responsibilities Develop and maintain business partnerships necessary for students to participate in appropriate off-campus work-based learning experiences. Coordinate student placement at off-campus sites and ensure that classroom instruction and training matches job site skill requirements. Maintain documentation of all contacts with parents/guardians, agency representatives, administration and colleagues regarding student progress and concerns as needed. Assemble new student records and assist in the coordination of student records, including all aspects of transition planning records and documentation (i.e., transition plans, IEP goals, exit documents, endorsements, etc.). Facilitate transitions to post-school placements for graduating students and/or transition-aged exiting students. Coordinate the completion and timely submission of all transition related sections of the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP), to include a detailed transition plan with specific goals and/or objectives. Attend transition and special education resource events and participate in regular adult service program tours in the communities served by Kennedy Krieger School Programs (KKSP) (e.g., transition fairs, resource meetings, open houses, workshops, informational sessions, town meetings, and the like) to stay current with programmatic offerings and to form relationships with agency contact persons. This may include regular evening work hours and occasional weekends. Responsible for awareness of and connection to adult and community service provision options in the Local Education Agency served by KKSP. Coordinate communication with education and clinical staff regarding all transition-related issues pertaining to students. Participate in and contribute to in-services in a professional and collegial manner. Transport students in school vehicles to off-site placements as needed. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess and maintain valid and current driver’s license. Must possess and maintain valid and current CPR certification. Must possess and maintain valid and current teaching license from the Maryland State Department of Education. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in special education from an MSDE-approved teacher program is required. Master’s degree in special education or a related area is preferred. EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years of educational or developmental assessment experience is required. Specific experience with transition planning and adult services is preferred.
