OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Workday Benefits Lead to join our HRMS Applications team. In this role, you will be an expert in the Workday Benefits module and use your technical and professional expertise to guide and mentor team members, provide thought leadership, and ensure effective system administration, configuration, enhancement, and support.
As the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Workday Benefits, you will play a key role in supporting and optimizing our Workday Benefits system, implementing new features, improving existing processes, and ensuring alignment with business needs.
Positions at this level are recognized as technical experts in Human Resources Management Systems design, development, and maintenance, and are relied upon to provide expert consultation and recommend, design, and coordinate both changes to business practices and system enhancements.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (Master’s preferred) OR equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Workday Benefits Lead in implementation and production support.
  • Deep expertise in the Workday Benefits module; experience with Core HCM and/or Payroll a plus.
  • Strong skills in Workday configuration, business process design, and system administration.
  • Experience with Workday Report Writer, EIBs, calculated fields, and security setup.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Hands-on configuration experience within Workday Benefits.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and present complex information clearly.
  • Experience managing Workday HCM/Benefits implementations, upgrades, or enhancements.
  • Proven expertise in testing, continuous improvement, and optimization of Workday functionality.
  • Strong documentation and process development skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data validation, formulas, pivot tables).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Workday Certification in HCM and Benefits.
  • Experience supporting public sector or large enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Responsibilities
  • Lead ongoing design, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of the Workday HCM application (Benefits module).
  • Configure and test Workday business processes, rules, and validations.
  • Research, test, and stay current on all Workday updates, fixes, and new capabilities.
  • Support critical system maintenance, operations, and enhancements.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and other stakeholders to analyze needs and implement solutions.
  • Manage configuration, security, and business process design for Workday Benefits.
  • Evaluate system requests, identify appropriate solutions, and execute changes.
  • Conduct system audits to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Lead deployment activities including regression testing, integration validation, and impact analysis.
  • Own the creation, validation, and execution of test scenarios for configuration changes.
  • Train and mentor team members and end-users; develop documentation, job aids, and guidelines.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure changes/enhancements are fully tested and meet business requirements.
  • Perform ongoing system monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
