Job Details Job Location: Burlington, WI 53105 Position Type: Full Time Job Shift: Day Job Category: Manufacturing The Fabrication Lead is a working leader responsible for coordinating daily activities on the shop floor, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency in all fabrication processes. This role bridges the gap between shop floor personnel (welders, fitters) and management, supporting the Production Manager with operational oversight while still actively participating in production tasks. Key Responsibilities: Perform hands-on fabrication work including welding, fitting, and equipment operation. Lead, mentor, and train welders and fitters by providing ongoing support, guidance, and hands-on demonstrations. Promote skill development by identifying individual strengths and areas for improvement, facilitating peer-to-peer learning, and reinforcing company quality standards. Foster a collaborative and respectful environment that encourages continuous improvement and personal growth. Act as the first point of contact for resolving shop floor issues, escalating only when necessary. Assist Production Manager with coordinating workflow, assigning tasks, and prioritizing daily work to meet production schedules. Inspect fabricated components for accuracy and quality; ensure adherence to fabrication drawings. Maintain adherence to all safety and operational procedures. Identify process inefficiencies or equipment issues and recommend solutions to the Fabrication Manager. Work collaboratively with Management, Quality, Production, Procurement and Engineering teams to execute project requirements. Provide input to the Production Manager regarding employee performance, training needs, and production challenges. Support onboarding and cross-training of team members. Enforce compliance with safety regulations and promote a culture of continuous improvement. Ensure that standard operating procedures are adhered to, and any changes or deviations in processes must be approved by Management. Keep open communication with the Production Manager on any employee related concern or observations, including outstanding performance, training recommendations or disciplinary issues. Perform, delegate and/or schedule preventive maintenance on machinery, mobile equipment, overhead cranes and tools. Assist in maintaining maintenance records and logs. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience in welding and steel fabrication, including layout and fitting. Previous leadership or team lead experience in a fabrication setting preferred. Proficient in interpreting fabrication drawings and weld symbols. Skilled in diagnosing and resolving minor equipment malfunctions. Proficient in GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding processes. Working knowledge of shop equipment including press brakes, burn tables, and cranes. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to lead by example and maintain a positive, team-oriented work environment. Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks associated with fabrication. Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.3 and Structural Welding Code is a plus. Working Conditions: Full-time position, Monday–Friday with potential for overtime.
