Department Operations & Environmental Services Affiliation Non-Union Compensation Range $39.48 - $42.09 Job Summary Reporting to the Supervisor of Sportsfields and Park Maintenance, the Working Foreperson - Parks Maintenance is responsible to deliver a wide range of technical services relating to the maintenance of municipal parks and horticultural requirements. Provides high quality turf care for all Town managed lands and oversees the daily work activities of full time employees, and part time seasonal staff assigned by the Supervisor. Job Duties Include The following responsibilities and duties of this position includes but is not limited to: Supports the Supervisor with establishing annual work plans and levels of service relating to the daily maintenance of all Town managed lands, including: litter collection, grounds maintenance, parks infrastructure repair, sidewalk, parking lot, trail snow removal, etc.; Assists the Supervisor in the development of annual operating budgets, and take the lead role in initiating the procurement of material, supplies and equipment; Utilizes the Town’s maintenance management software (City Works) to plan, schedule, organize and keep accurate records and ensures all work activities (labour, equipment and materials) are captured by asset; Identifies chemical treatments, mixes and application rates for herbicides/pesticides as authorized in the Province of Ontario in accordance with the Ontario Pesticides Act; Operates turf/maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors, fertilizer sprayers, waste collection vehicles, and etc.; Assists supervisor with developing an annual training plan to ensure full time and part time staff are appropriately trained prior to the operation of any equipment, including any chemical applications; Coordinates the routine inspections of Town managed infrastructure and identify capital improvement projects (fencing, pathways, furniture, etc.) to the Manager of Infrastructure & Asset Management; Provides exceptional customer service and maintains a high level of communication when dealing with members of the public. Qualifications/Skills College diploma in turf or horticulture management, or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience with the demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities; Minimum of two (2) years of municipal winter control experience operating heavy and medium-size snow cleaning equipment; Valid Landscape Exterminator license from the MOE and Climate Change; Solid understanding of the City Works work order processes with ability to complete accurate data entry within the software; Knowledge of health and safety and other applicable provincial legislations and acts; Good understanding of the Minimum Maintenance Standards and other guiding legislation; Excellent organization skills and time management skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment with changing priorities on a daily basis; Ability to communicate effectively with others and assign work based on priorities; Excellent leadership skills and ability to work with minimal supervision; Proven skills in M365 (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Valid Class 'DZ' license and clean driver's abstract. What is Offered to Staff Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position. Work Hours: This is a unionized position that works a 40 our work week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. As this position assists with winter control activities, the incumbent is required to be available for winter control standby from mid-November to mid-April each year.
