JOB SUMMARY
DWP is looking to fill the Programme Director role for Workplace Transformation within its Change portfolio.
The Workplace Transformation Programme is a 10-year programme that started in 2021. Working with service delivery, it sets the strategic direction for how and where DWP colleagues will work, delivering substantial cost savings, helping to deliver a responsive, affordable, sustainable and inclusive estate and supporting new ways of working to make the most of that estate.
The Workplace Transformation Programme Director will provide transformational leadership across a cross-departmental, multi-disciplinary team, ensuring successful delivery and the benefits realisation of Workplace Transformation Programme. They will be accountable for ensuring the Programme meets its objectives, delivers the projected outcomes and enables realisation of the required benefits, providing a flexible, affordable, sustainable and inclusive workplace for colleagues and customers, helping make DWP a great place to work.
As this role is within the Change Profession, the successful candidate will have an active role in leading and supporting the development of the capability across the function.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be a critical member of the senior leadership team of the programme and support the full time SRO in the successful delivery of the Programme objectives and scope, for its adherence to its strategic approach and for the delivery of agreed outcomes. The Programme Director will provide oversight, leadership to and assurance over the programme, from the overall strategy to the end-to-end delivery of new workplaces, including ways of working.
This role forms part of the broader Change community within DWP, working alongside other senior leaders, Programme Directors and SROs to help drive DWP forward over the coming years. The Programme Director will work with project delivery leads in the programme to provide coaching, development, and support to help them deliver the programme outcomes overall.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain a strong high performing, inclusive and multi-disciplinary, delivery-focused, Programme team. Working across the Programme, to provide development, coaching and guidance.
- Leading of the overarching Workplace Transformation Programme, ensure its overall integrity and adherence. Drive the day-to-day performance, monitor delivery against the Programme plan, specifically that spend, risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies, benefits and milestones are effectively managed
- Ensure strategic and operational risks and issues are identified, prioritised, assessed and mitigated across the breadth of the Programme
- Create an inclusive environment in which projects and individuals can succeed – working effectively together and managing dependencies
- Deliver the benefits and outcomes set out in business case, taking responsibility for the benefits realisation approach and ensuring senior leaders within product lines are delivering the required transformation
- Lead the development of the Business Case, alignment with senior stakeholders including Departmental Ministers and agreement through Programme Board / SRO / Executive Team
- Lead on external reporting, where necessary, to organisations such as the Infrastructures Project Authority and GIAA
- Ensure the Programme’s alignment with the DWP Single View of Change, and report centrally where required
- Working closely with the SRO, ensure stakeholder interests are identified and addressed. Segment and manage multiple stakeholder groups appropriately in complex environments. Build consensus and develop strategic relationships across a large and often diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS
Professional accreditation;
Membership of professional Project Management body
- An advanced programme management qualification such as Major Project Leadership Academy, MSc in major programme management or APM Major Project Leadership Specialist Certificate.
- Hold or willing to work towards Infrastructure Projects Authority Senior Practitioner accreditation.
