Mō te tūranga | About the role As our Works Officer, you will manage a variety of works projects, such as visitor experience capital works, infrastructure and property projects, and asset replacements. You will work as part of a small team to successfully deliver projects to planned scope, time, and budget. The position will be focused on: Providing project management for the upgrade, replacement or removal of the Department's recreational, historic and biodiversity-built infrastructure. This involves scoping works, business case development, engaging and managing consultants and contractors, obtaining consents, tendering and managing works contracts, budget management and reporting. Complying with and promoting the Department's Health and Safety policy and guidelines. Providing project advice to other staff, and supporting others in the delivery of their projects Take on other conservation initiatives aligned to your skills and interests as needs arise. This fixed-term full-time role will need you to get out and about in some of the most beautiful and remarkable parts of Auckland and the Gulf Islands! The Auckland Region comprises four Districts: Hauraki Gulf Inner Islands, Aotea/Great Barrier Island, Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland Mainland, and a new Auckland Marine district. While the role is preferably based in Auckland, other locations in the upper North Island may be considered for the right candidate. You will have strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability manage your workload, often with competing deadlines and priorities and still produce high quality work. Ideally you will have: A qualification and/or relevant experience in works projects / contract management. The ability to develop and maintain relationships and work as part of a high functioning team. A track record of delivering projects on time, on budget and within scope. Sound level of knowledge and practice of capital and operational budget management within the context of project delivery. An understanding of, or experience with, applying for statutory consents such as resource consents, building consents and heritage authorities. A sound knowledge of contractor health and safety management. Current full New Zealand driving licence. High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel. An understanding of recreation, historic and biodiversity assets (e.g. huts, tracks).
