The Company
We are sourcing a candidate to work for a very exciting client. With over 20 years’ expertise in welding, plasma cutting, and sheet metal, our client provides tailored fabrication solutions for projects of every scale, backed by a commitment to quality and sustainability.
Location: Thornton, Lancashire, FY5
Pay: £40,000 – £60,000
Shifts: Weekdays

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the workshop, ensuring projects are completed to specification and deadline.
  • Lead and supervise a small team of welders, fabricators, fitters, and apprentices.
  • Plan, allocate, and monitor workloads, coordinating resources effectively.
  • Effective means of communication within the senior management team.
  • Uphold stringent quality standards to meet company and client expectations.
  • Manage inventory, tools, and equipment, including maintenance and repairs.
  • Support project management with technical advice, costings, and progress updates.
  • Drive continuous improvement, training, and staff development.
  • Maintain strong communication with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety policies and legislation.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven supervisory/management experience within fabrication, engineering, or manufacturing.
  • Strong technical knowledge of welding in multiple positions, working with different material thicknesses, and a solid background in fabrication.
  • Experience in machine shop operations, including CNC lathes and turning machines.
  • Hands-on knowledge of MIG, TIG, MMA, and flux core processes, with the ability to step in where required (though this is primarily a managerial role).
  • Skilled in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Background in maintaining documentation and accreditation records for jobs carried out.
  • Ability to track and record job costings, and confidently prepare accurate quotations.
  • Proactive approach with strong problem-solving ability.
  • Effective leader with excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Confident IT user (Microsoft Office, job management systems).
  • Ideally based within a 30-minute commute of Thornton, Lancashire.
  • This role is well suited to a more senior Fabricator/ Welder or senior Machine Shop workshop manager/ supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualifications in fabrication, mechanical engineering, or related field.
  • Health & Safety certifications (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH) desirable.
  • Forklift, crane, or lifting certifications advantageous.
