The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts®) develops the next generation of diverse, artistically promising scholar-artists through intensive pre-professional training in the arts, combined with a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum. Over 2,500 hours of tuition-free, pre-professional arts training are provided to every scholar-artist from freshman year to graduation. Our alumni are pioneers – as scientists, educators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers, and from millions of plays on Spotify, to touring with a dance company, to published writing, to making art that challenges and entertains us on stage and screen, they are blazing new pathways. Position Overview: The World Language Spanish Teacher will play a vital role in fostering language proficiency and cultural awareness among students. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the Spanish language and culture, committed to student-centered learning, and able to create an immersive classroom experience that challenges students academically while promoting language fluency. Qualifications Key Responsibilities: Instruction & Student Engagement Develop and implement engaging, student-centered lessons that promote oral proficiency, grammar, writing, and cultural exploration. Use backward design principles to create unit plans aligned with curriculum goals. Foster a classroom culture that encourages conversation, critical thinking, and language immersion. Differentiate instruction to support heritage learners, native speakers, and second-language learners. Utilize a variety of assessment tools to measure student progress and inform instruction. Collaboration & Professional Development Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop best practices tailored to ChiArts’ diverse student population. Integrate technology and multimedia resources to enhance language learning. Actively participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives. Maintain accurate student records, track progress, and use data-driven instruction to enhance student outcomes. School & Community Engagement Implement trauma-informed, restorative justice, and anti-racist teaching practices in the classroom. Maintain consistent communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress. Participate in school events, open houses, and parent conferences. Serve as an advisor in the student advisory program, offering mentorship and guidance to students. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate Spanish endorsement. Experience in curriculum development, language immersion, and differentiated instruction preferred. Strong oral and written proficiency in Spanish. Knowledge of educational technology and its integration into language learning. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. A commitment to equity, inclusion, and the value of arts education. Ability to adapt and improve in changing environments while collaborating effectively with colleagues. Working Conditions: Job Hazards: This position requires a fingerprint and background check conducted by Chicago Public Schools. Travel Requirements: This position does not require travel as part of the job responsibilities; however, travel may be required to attend professional development/conferences. Salary and Benefits: Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000 (based on experience and qualifications).
