Description JOB SUMMARY: Assists manager with maintaining patient schedule, coordinating treatment to provide comprehensive wound assessments, efficiency, and flow within the department. Helps develop and follow plans of care. Provides scheduled wound treatments as ordered by physician. Assists with patient, family and staff education regarding wound management, prevention of pressure ulcers, support surfaces, dressing selections and other therapies. Assists with performance improvement plan of the organization. Obtains Super User status in Wound Expert program. Preceptor for new hires. EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of state approved school of nursing and has passed the stat board examination. Current state RN Licensure or LPN Licensure with intent to pursue RN. Current BLS Certification Prefer 2 years minimum of wound care experience. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the mission and vision of the organization. Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures. Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs). Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time. Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate. GENERAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred. Strong written and verbal skills. Basic Computer Skills WORKING CONDITIONS: General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms. May be required to change from one task to another or different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. May be scheduled as needed including overtime. PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS & DEMANDS: Have near normal hearing: Hear alarms/telephone/normal speaking voice. Have near normal vision: Clarity of vision (both near and far), ability to distinguish colors. Have good manual dexterity. Have good eye-hand foot coordination. Ability to perform repetitive tasks/motion. Continuously within shift (67-100%): Standing, Walking. Frequently within shift (34-66%): Bending/Stooping, Pushing/Pulling, Lift/carry up to 20lbs, Lift/carry greater than 20 lbs. with assistance. Knowledgeable of the anatomy and physiology and disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary and dermal systems. Utilizes principles of current wound management theory when providing care to patient with acute and chronic wounds. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of staging system of wounds. Follows skin care programs to prevent skin breakdown of patient. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. Operates all equipment correctly and safely. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served. Ability to follow plan of care. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level licensure. Demonstrates ability to assist with a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers. Knowledgeable of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and clinical condition. Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and families; communicates with social service/discharge planner as appropriate. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Demonstrates ability to assist with in-services on wound prevention, wound care, ostomy care and incontinence for the nursing staff. Communicates appropriately and clearly to nurse managers, nursing staff and physicians. Consults other healthcare professional/departments as appropriate to provide interdisciplinary approach to the patient’ needs. Documentation meets current standards and practices. Stays current with changes, new advances/treatment in wound care. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Attends seminars, conferences, continuing education classes in the areas of wound prevention, wound management and ostomies. Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Follows Code of Conduct policy. Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean. Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. Wears identification when on duty; uses computerized time clock system correctly. Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion. Attends annual review and/or skills fair and department in-services, as scheduled. Attempts to end conversations and other interactions in a positive manner; leaves others with a good impression of the Hospital Authority of Miller County and its employees.
