Department W.O.C. SERVICES/HBO - 207143 Worker Sub Type Regular Work Shift First Shift (United States of America) Pay Grade Job Description Under the direction of an RN, provides care and treatment appropriate to the age of patients served as detailed and determined through the unit specific Scope of Care, Competency/Skills Checklists, Equipment Skills Matrix and In-service Training (for example obtains and records vital signs and initial complaint, taking down a dressing, photographing a wound, recording measurements, replacing a dressing, applying a wound V.A.C. dressing, assisting with TCC-EZ application). Follows documented policy and procedure in the delivery of patient care. Receives report and/or makes rounds on unit/clinic with the registered nurse/licensed personnel. Performs and completes assigned tasks accurately. Assists licensed personnel in the delivery of patient care. Examples include--assisting patients to room, prepares chart, obtains necessary signatures, prepares specimens for lab, makes appointments, fax communications. Assists other unit members without being asked when own work is complete. Ensures that labs are documented properly and called in for pick up. Monitors inventory and orders and maintains supplies. Reports observations to the team leaders, i.e., patient complaints, patient behavior or appearance, family complaints. Reports completeness of assigned tasks to the registered nurse at end of shift and, as necessary, otherwise. Completes unit environmental tasks as assigned (for example stocking of rooms, supplies and linens, files and clinic forms). Maintains a clean and safe work environment by wiping down surfaces in patient rooms, cleaning instruments, gathering soiled linens, proper disposal of sharps, and collecting instruments for sterilization. Reports unsafe equipment or practice immediately to appropriate personnel. Verbalizes and carries out Disaster and Fire Regulations and procedures. Adheres to Universal Precautions and Infection Control policies. Attends in-service class, as assigned. Participates in patient care conferences, staff meetings and nursing committees. Pursues continuing education. Provides input into the plan of care and performance improvement issues for the department. Reports on the unit and off duty at established shift times. Reports to charge nurse/designee when leaving the unit and upon re-entering unit. No excessive time taken for breaks and meals and email communications. Uses leave request system appropriately. Supports the culture of care/respect that involves self, others, and place Education High School Diploma or GED preferred Certification & Licensures Will be required to obtain Valley Health provided annual flu vaccination if employed in Long-Term Care clinical areas. Registry of the Board of Nursing as a Certified Nurse Aide required. Must be listed on the relevant Registry of the Board of Nursing as a Certified Nurse Aide in Virginia and/or West Virginia based on work location(s) within Valley Health. BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation. Qualifications Must understand basic principles of human growth and development. Must be competent to successfully interact with patients according to their special needs, which may apply based on the age of the patient served. Must have a reliable means of phone communication with hospital.
