STANDARDS & REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master’s degree required, preferably in education, linguistics, or TESOL.
Experience: Familiarity with the academic and linguistic expectations of Canadian university; at least 1 year of experience teaching or tutoring

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

Writing Coaches help students with every stage of their writing process via individual and group sessions. Writing Coaches collaborate with faculty and support staff to provide support to students from orientation to graduation.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Work with students in writing coaching sessions on various writing skills at various stages of the writing process, such as: prewriting, integrating research, drafting, revising, editing, and formatting
  • Plan and facilitate writing group sessions and workshops based on specific learning outcomes and assignments
  • Coordinate with course instructors regarding course-specific writing support, such as: course writing content and assignments, expectations, rubrics, and formative feedback
  • Develop writing resources and training materials
  • Collaborate with the team of Writing Coaches and other Learning Commons professionals
  • Refer students to appropriate TWU specialists and supports
  • Engage in professional development
